Adventures of  a Little Match Girl takes its title from The Little Match Girl, a fairy story by Hans Christian Andersen.  A poor waif wanders alone and cold in the snow, trying to sell her matches.  When nobody buys her matches, she lights them to keep herself warm.  When the matches burn out, she freezes to death.  As she dies, she see a vision of her grandmother, taking her to God.  In the author's adaption of the story, the matches represent our illusions, death is the dark night of the soul, and the little girl's vision is our connection with the eternal.

Each of the ten stories represents a pattern recognized, a mystery revealed in the author's life.
